We are getting into the “winter” season and extremely cold days are expected for the next 2 months. It is important to take steps to plan for the cold season and avoid serious health problems that can result from exposure to the cold. The most common cold-related problems are pneumonia and flu.
These tips will help children keep off the biting cold during the months of June and July.
Dressing Warmly:Dress the kids up in a jacket as they go to school; many schools prefer that children wear colors that match the school uniform therefore keep that in mind as you buy a jacket for the children. Most heat is lost through the head and parents could also get a woolly cap that matches the school colors. Scarves are also good for protecting the neck and could be used to cover part of the face.
Good Nutrition: Eating a well balanced diet can help children fight off colds and flu. Pack for them healthy snacks for break such as fruits, sliced vegetables or some yoghurt.
Keep the hydrated: Although children may not be sweating as much as they do in warm weather, they still need to keep hydrated. Smart choices for the cold season are low-sugar juices, which are high in vitamin C, which lessen the severity and duration of colds. Cocoa/hot chocolate is also a wise pick; it is a great source of antioxidants, which is believed to strengthen the immune system.
